H E R M E N E U T IC S refers to the art and science of interpretation, which unfolds meanings of texts, images, and symbols within successive historical scenes. Shakespearean drama offers both objects for hermeneutic attention and examples of exegetical engagement with several legacies, including classical, Biblical, medieval, and modern forms of meaning-making.
