EVENT: The Self-Published Life: Engaging the New Democracy of Letters

Demonstration and Discussion with Julia Lupton

Thursday, Mar 22
Saddleback College
SSC 212, 12pm.

According to a recent survey, fewer people read books, yet a growing number of Americans – especially young people – identify themselves as writers. Blogs, email, instant messaging, podcasting, journaling, and micro-marketing are some of the forms through which the new democracy of letters is taking shape. An education in the humanities – including training in English, history, philosophy, art history, and film and media studies — can help this new generation of writers contribute more effectively to the shape and substance of the ever-expanding world of verbal and visual communication.
